For the one or two of you that read this blog, I have been away for the past 10 days on a photo trip to Hungary. I have been there three times before and it would be interesting to see if the amount of bird life has changed.

Monday 17th April, pick up from Budapest airport by Saker Holidays, the local tour company that we had booked with and then on to start a 3 day extension trip to the main tour in the Hortobagy area from Thursday. Daniel, our guide was excellent and diverted on the way to see some Great Bustards, a first for me. Rather distant but some reasonable shots possible.

Then on to find the nest of an Eastern Imperial Eagle, with a diversion of a Black Woodpecker on the way.

The Eagle nest was also rather distatnt with the male sitting on the top of a distant tree so not the best shots but still, the best shots I have ever had of the species - of course my first ones so anything is better than nothing!!!

Then on to our hotel for the next three nights to see what the next day would bring.

Two lifers for me so a good start.
