I was really surprised to see that the last blog was nearly three weeks ago. Indicative of the shortage of suitable photographic subjects around - it is really hard work.

20th September and I spent a couple of hours at the local Dernford Reservoir, just south of Cambridge. Weather cloudy, I didn't expect much so I was not disappointed. A Little Egret struck the correct pose for the mood of the day - pretty miserable.

A flighty Whinchat was occasionally showing on the margins and eventually gave itself up for a passable shot.

That was the sum total for the visit.

The next trip was to the RSPB Reserve at Lakenheath Fen on 3rd October. There is only one hide so I arrived at 09.00 and it was almost full. At least some photographers get up early!!!!

Bearded Tits (Reedling) were buzzing around but never came close enough for a decent shot. Still is has been over a year since my last shot of one so here is the best of the day - nothing to get excited about!!!!

A Great White Egret dropped in

and a Water Rail showed on the far margin of the scrape - too distant really but worth a shot for the reflection.

But the stars of the day were Kingfishers with one perching just in front of the hide after catching a fish.

Although, once again, rather distant for a good photo, another Kingfisher decided to preen on a branch

and diving into the water on occasions to clean up.

Worth the trip out, I think.
