An unexpected break in the clouds provided some watery sunshine about 11.30 today so I decided to head for Fowlmere RSPB for a couple of hours to see if there was anything worth photographing.
As I entered the hide, I was kindly informed that the Kingfisher had showed about 5 minutes before - just the information we all like to hear!!!!
Anyway, it showed a few times again although the light was deteriorating.
In the past, it has hovered in front of the hide, although rather distant for good images and it obliged a couple of times again but only one image was worth keeping because of the light.
It then perched on a low branch in front of the hide for a few seconds before moving on.
With the light fading rapidly, I decided to call it a day, but noticed a covey of Grey Partridge close to the road on the way home, although the wrong side of the car. Worth a few shots but I wasn't expecting too much, shooting out of the far car window at ISO800 and 1/80th second. Well not too bad in the end.
I am still using the Canon 7D - now over 3 years old and the low light capability is lacking compared with the later Canon models (and Nikon cameras too). I am just not happy to shoot at more then ISO800 because of the noise.
Rumours are that a 7D MK2 will be announced this month or next. Personally, I cannot wait as I favour the 1.6 crop factor of the 7D rather than the full frame 5D MK3 or the 1DX. It suits my style of photography. Well ,we wait and see and hope that the specification of the new model will be worth the wait.
