Is there such a word as 'Finchfest'? Not sure but the word describes my visit to rolex replica watches Sculthorpe Moor near Fakenham last Wednesday.
It is while since I last visited the reserve and since then, they have built a new 'Treetop' hide and I wanted to try it out. Going straight there, it was plain that it was going to be tight squeeze. One side face the scrape and reedbed with the other facing into the trees but the secreen in the middle strongly favoured the scrape side and there was little room for photographers onthe other side, but you make the best of it.
Constructed to assist those with disabilities, there is a long walkway to the replica omega hide and it is about 3 to 4 metres high with feeders on that level. The hide does shake rather when the walkway is being used so, while it was relatively quiet when I visited, at busy times, photography would be virtually impossible.
The best side is on the left where a large feeder has been suspended from a large pine tree. Goldfinches were everywhere with many Chaffinches too but i already have plenty of images of those so I comcentrated on Lesser Redpoll
and Siskin
The odd Marsh Tit also visited
There was the odd Brambling too but only visiting the feeders on the right hand side with omega replica watches a very messy background so I didn't bother.
At lunchtime, we moved on to the scrape which was devoid of anything of interest so retraced our steps to the Whitely hide where there was plenty of activity. Bullfinches
one visit from a Nuthatch
and loads of Bramblings which was one of my target species for the day.
So a very successful day overall with a total of 6 finch species - a Finchfest - all close enough for good photography. This reserve is well worth a visit.
