With a couple of hours to spare yesterday afternoon, I visited the local RSPB reserve at Fowlmere. There is a nest box with 4 Barn Owl chicks about to fledge but, although very distant, could be worth a shot. Needless to say, they were in the depths of the box and did not show.

The only bird of mild interest was a Little Grebe that preened and stretched in front of the hide.

With the late afternoon sun and a reed backdrop in the water, a colourful portrait resulted.

It really is very hard work in Cambs at present - lets hope that it changes shortly and we see some migrants to brighten things up.
