Looking at the photos on Birdguides, I noticed that there were some good images of Crossbills from an 'Undisclosed Site' in Suffolk.

Putting two and two tohether, I thought that I had identified the site so went there this morning. Arriving in the car park there were several photographers pointing their lenses at a puddle in the car park so I knew that I had hit the correct place.

Lining up with them, we waited, and waited, and waited. Finally one adult male put in an appearance and came down to drink, unusual in that they normally come down to drink in small flocks but beggars can't be choosers!!!

This bird soon flew but Crossbills need to drink frequently because of their diet so we all waited with optimism, evidently misplaced as two hours later a pair came down to drink in another pool a little distant.

and that was it. Well, never mind, thats bird photography for you!!!
