Our last day started with very heavy snow in Vardo so it was decided to leave early to try to make sure that we were not held up by the drfting snow on the road. Even so, we only just made it through the tundra area south west of Vardo where the snow was drfting across the road in the strong wind.
The journey was to take us back to Kaamanen in Finland where we stayed the first two nights. This was the motel with feeders and we arrived - named Neljan Tuulen Tupa. We arrives at lunchtime and soon set up for another session on the feeders.
Not as productive as the first day - no Siberian Tit, no Siberian Jay, just a brief visit from Pine Grosbeak
but loads of Redpolls, both Arctic and Common.
This was the end of the trip. Most enjoyable with excellent photo opportunities. The range of species was small but that is to be expected at this time of the year. The highlight, for me, was the first day on the feeders at Kaamanen and the third day in the hides in Batsfjord harbour. The weather in Varanger was a disappointment but to be expected in the Arctic.
Now to plan the next trip.
