Last Friday, I decided it was time to re-acquaint myself with West Norfolk. Surprisingly, I have not visited that area this year. In the past, I have visited at least once a month but not recently, probably because Titchwell RSPB was becoming disappointing for photography.
Anyway, the first call was to Holme Dunes, the Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve that is good for migrants at this time of the year. Calling at the office, I was quickly informed that a female Redstart was showing in the bushes at the other side of the car park - a quick look throught the bins and there it was, a female, but I only have very poor images of Redstart so this was very welcome.
She was very flighty if I approached by foot so I backed up the car and sat and waited. After an hour or so, she came within range allowing some decent shots
Finally, she perched on a branch next to the car and sat for a few minutes - just what I was waiting for!!!
With the morning gone, I moved to nearby Thornham for the high tide. A pair of Oystercatchers were settled until one decided to preen and wing-stretch.
A lone Black-tailed Godwit in summer plumage was feeding but nothing else of real interest.
Moving around to other sites in the area, nothing presented itself for an image. Once again, a trip to Titchwell RSPB proved disappointing with only a female Red-crested Pochard and a scruffy Ruff of passing interest
On the way home, I called in at Thornham again and was surprised to see a pair of Brent Geese in the creek and they proved to be very tolerant of me photographing from the car - most unusual.
Overall a good day with more images in the Recent Additions section.
