Sometimes, the lack of interesting birds encourages one to make the best of things. And so it turned out last Wednesday (9th) when I decided to go to Welney WWT. What was on show? Mallard, Pochard, Mute Swans, a few Whooper Swans, Greylag and Canada Geese. Not much to get excited about.
So I spent most of the day trying to get interesting shots to replace some of the older photos in my library.
Just a selection of the many.
The only really different shot was of a flying Coot - a very common bird but rarely seen to properly fly in my experience.
And that was it. On the way home, I called in at Cambridge Research Park to check on the gull roost. Only about ten birds in total with this Herring Gull landing in the evening light.
What was worrying was that I disturbed a Lesser Black-backed Gull on the edge of the lake that tried to take off but could not fly and showed all the signs of having contracted Avian Influenza.
Apart from that, surprisingly, I had an enjoyable day, just trying to get improved shots of common birds. More photos in the Recent Additions section of this website.
